The Foundation Stage curriculum provides our youngest pupils with opportunities to develop key skills through play and exploration alongside planned activities and experiences. Whilst our early years classes follow planned termly themes, children’s individual interests and preferences are used to engage and further develop their learning. During child-initiated sessions, children have access to both classroom and outdoor areas. Learning is based on the following prime and specific areas which we extend up to age seven where relevant and appropriate:

Prime areas

Communication and language

Physical development

Personal, Social and Emotional development

Specific areas

Understanding the world

Expressive arts and design

The Foundation Stage rolling program includes only the specific areas as we consider the prime areas to be linked more closely to individual stages of development and therefore addressed through personalised targets (IEPs).
