World Book Day 2026

Date: 5th Mar 2026 @ 5:04pm

We have had lots of fun this week in celebration of World Book Week and World Book Day! This year our theme was colours, so we have explored two books in particular - 'Wow! Said the Owl' by Tim Hopgood and 'The Smeds and the Smoos' by Julia Donaldson.

The children have enjoyed listening to and experiencing both of the books and have joined in with lots of activities to bring both stories to life.

On Wednesday we focused on the rainbow from 'Wow! Said the Owl' and the children completed a 'Mission Impossible' challenge to fill a huge rainbow with different coloured items from around the classroom. We were so proud of how the children all worked together to create the beautiful rainbow, before making their own smaller scaled versions. We also practised following instructions when producing Owl artwork during stage 4 of our Attention Autism session.

Today, for World book day, most of the children decided to dress up as their favourite characters - they all looked brilliant, and it caused much excitment in the class throughout the day! We read 'The Smeds and the Smoos' this morning and then had some messy play fun exploring some of the different places that are mentioned in the story, such as the slimy Planet Glurch and the dry and dusty Plante Vumjum. We then made our own space alien pictures in our art session using a varitey of collage materials. Later we explored colour mixing in our Attention Autism session, including mixing different colours of icing to decorate biscuits during stage 4 - yummy!
